OutSports.com journalist Cyd Ziegler hosted an intriguing sports panel discussion to talk about LGBT people in sports. ?He invited sports leaders in the LGBT community who have been highly regarded for their decisions to come out of the closet while being a star in their sports of choice.
Invited panelists included Joanna Lohman (soccer ? lesbian), Kye Allmans (basketball ? transgender male) and Craig Cassey (track and field ? gay). ?British rugby player Ben Cohen joined the panel as a straight ally who has actively ran initiatives that promotes tolerance in the sports world.
The discussion brought out very tough questions for the panelists to address such as how to come out as an athlete, how to create an atmosphere of tolerance from both gay and straight sides, how to deal with the pressures of being a great team athlete while being out, and more.
Questions fielded by Cyd Zieglier originated from readers of OutSports which made a dynamic session.
