Survey Shows 56 Percent Of US Households Own Current Gaming ...

Nielsen Group recently has revealed its annual survey that covered the video gaming business and related trends. It has reported that there are now around 56 percent of US households that own at least the latest generation gaming console. That is up from 50 percent from last year. The survey also indicated that there in an increase seen in mobile and tablet gaming, which helped provide a 7 percent increase in total gaming time this year compared to that of last year. These numbers may be indicating that the gaming sector may be undergoing renewed dynamism min its recent transition.

The survey also indicated that 4 out of 5 of those interested in the next generation gaming console are current gaming console owners. Gamers are also seen as increasingly playing using multiple screens. Around 24 percent now play video games using two or more screens on a PC, console or a mobile device. It?s up from 17 percent in 2009.

The survey also showed that there seems to be an increasing overlap and competition for gaming space in mobile and handheld devices as well as tablets. There are around 66 percent of households with kids ages 6 to 12 that has a Nintendo DS or a Sony PSP along with an Apple iOS device.? Another important trend that the survey found was that the Web has played an increasing role when it comes to generating awareness for game launches. More and more gamers are spending more time on the Internet when not spending their time on gaming. This may indicate a shift in ad spending from print to digital when it comes to promoting and launching new games or game consoles. In addition, shopping for games online has increased 3 percent compared to last year while other means of purchasing games experienced declines.
