2013 NFL Draft: Hawai'i loses CB/KR Mike Edwards to Draft

Hawai'i's Mike Edwards has entered his name into the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Hawaii Warriors lost their 2012 team MVP to the NFL Draft a few weeks back, starting cornerback/kick returner Mike Edwards has decided to forgo his senior year and move onto the NFL.

On the defensive side of the ball Edwards had a pair of picks, 43 tackles, five tackles for loss and an amazing 15 passes broken up. Edwards also had a major impact on the return game where he scored three touchdowns off of punt returns, and he averaged 30.4 yards per punt return.

Losing Edwards is huge, but Hawaii has plenty of reinforcements for 2013 to make up for what Edwards did defensively. Ne'Quan Phillips and Tony Grimes have started in the past, and then there is Brian Clay, who redshirted in 2012. The coaches also like Anthony Pierce, who grayshirted this past fall, plus there Ronald Fields who could possibly be on campus in the fall.

According to NFLDraftScout.com, Edwards is the No. 27 rated cornerback in the NFL Draft, and is the No. 219th player overall. That makes him a late round draft pick, but the website says that some scouts are giving him a grade much higher, with some placing him as a possible third round selection.

As for Edwards decision to go pro, he said it was to take care of his family, he has two sons.
