Board president could be removed over Sebring scandal

OMAHA, Neb. -

Monday night will be critical for the leadership of Omaha Public Schools, KETV-TV reported.

The Omaha board could vote to remove President Freddie Gray, who's under fire over the Nancy Sebring scandal and what she knew about the school leader.

Gray's accused of withholding information from board members who had hired Sebring for the superintendent position in late April.

However, Gray said that, in communication with the school board attorney, Sebring never went into specifics about the scandal in Des Moines.

"We had been led to believe these were nothing more than an email that a 17-year-old would read in Cosmopolitan magazine," Gray said.

In a separate matter, Gray faces an ethics complaint from Douglas County Republicans.

The group questions why Gray approved thousands of dollars for nonprofits involving her husband, City Councilman Ben Gray.

"It is disappointing that a group can make such a claim without any actual supporting documentation. It is meritless and politically motivated," read a statement on behalf of Freddie Gray.

Monday's school board meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Teacher Administration Center at 3215 Cuming St. On the agenda are two items listed as "Removal from Office" and "Election of Officers (if needed)."
