Gunman hunted after shooting 2 cops, killing dog

State and local police backed by SWAT officers and at least one helicopter searched early Friday for a gunman who shot two officers and killed a police dog in the central Indiana town of Pendleton, authorities said.

A Madison County police spokesperson told NBC News that the suspect was considered armed and dangerous. Law enforcement officers were "actively working" on the case and local residents had been advised to remain inside, the spokesperson said.

Todd Harmeson, a spokesman for the Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, told NBC station WTHR-Indianapolis that officers were involved in a routine call around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when multiple shots were fired, with at least two people sustaining injuries.

Two officers were taken to area hospitals from the shooting scene. An officer from the Anderson, Ind., Police Department?was taken by air ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with a gunshot wound to the leg. That officer underwent surgery but was alert and talking, police told WTHR.

An officer from the Pendleton Police Department returned to the scene after being treated for a graze wound to the leg.?The Pendleton officer's car was also struck by bullets, WTHR reported.

The police spokesperson told NBC News that a dog working with the officers was shot and killed during the incident.

Pendleton, a town of about 4,000 residents, is situated approximately 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Gunfire from automatic weapon reported
A woman at the scene told WTHR she called 911 after hearing gunfire from an automatic weapon and seeing at least one officer shot in the leg.

Harmeson told WTHR that the suspect, believed to be Jim Kenneth Bailey of New Castle, Ind.,?remains at-large in the Pendleton area. Authorities believe Bailey is armed with an automatic weapon.

Bailey was described as a white male, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and wearing dark shorts and a gray shirt, WTHR reported.

Police set up a perimeter throughout Pendleton as they searched for possible suspects. SWAT officers were called to the scene and a helicopter was being used to assist in the search.

Add vitamins and nutrients to your diet. Vitamin B complex, vitamins E and C, zinc and biotin help increase hair strength and health. Take extra supplements or eat foods rich in these nutrients and vitamins to help retain pre-pregnancy locks.

Select a shampoo with quality ingredients. Shampoos that contain biotin or silica improve hair health and stimulate follicle growth. Use this shampoo regularly and rinse with cold water.

Comb your wet hair with a wide-toothed comb. A wide-toothed comb reduces the amount of pulling and stress you apply to your hair as you attempt to remove tangles after washing it. Excessive pulling of your hair can increase the chances of it falling out.

Reduce the use of heated styling tools. Heated styling tools like curling irons, hot rollers, flat irons and blow dryers dry hair out and may increase hair loss. Allow your hair to air dry and style it naturally. If you must use heated styling tools, use the coolest settings possible or give your hair a cool shot of air afterward with your hair dryer.

Ecstasy harms memory with one year of recreational use

ScienceDaily (July 25, 2012) ? There has been significant debate in policy circles about whether governments have over-reacted to ecstasy by issuing warnings against its use and making it illegal. In the UK, David Nutt said ecstasy was less dangerous than horseback riding, which led to him being fired as the government's chief drug advisor. Others have argued that ecstasy is dangerous if you use it a lot, but brief use is safe.

New research published online July 25 by the scientific journal Addiction, gives some of the first information available on the actual risk of using ecstasy. It shows that even in recreational amounts over a relatively short time period, ecstasy users risk specific memory impairments. Further, as the nature of the impairments may not be immediately obvious to the user, it is possible people wouldn't get the signs that they are being damaged by drug use until it is too late.

According to the study, new ecstasy users who took ten or more ecstasy pills over their first year of use showed decreased function of their immediate and short-term memory compared with their pre-ecstasy performance. These findings are associated with damage of the hippocampus, the area of the brain that oversees memory function and navigation. Interestingly, hippocampal damage is one of the first signs of Alzheimer's disease, resulting in memory loss and disorientation.

The study participants took an average of 32 pills each over the course of the year, or about two and a half pills per month. Some participants took as few as ten pills over the year and still showed signs of memory impairments.

Lead author Dr. Daniel Wagner says: "This study was designed to minimize the methodological limitations of earlier research, in which it was not possible to say whether cognitive impairments seen among ecstasy users were in place before drug use began. By measuring the cognitive function of people with no history of ecstasy use and, one year later, identifying those who had used ecstasy at least ten times and remeasuring their performance, we have been able to start isolating the precise cognitive effects of this drug."

If SammyHub's blurrycam tipster is to believed, Samsung will soon be swelling its Duos line of dual-sim handsets with the (purported) GT-S732 you see before you. Presumably, the feature phone will sit at the floor of any pricing table since it's packing a meager 2-megapixel camera, 2.4-inch display and a 1,000mAh battery. Notably the handset includes a WiFi radio, which puts us in mind of a messaging-centric handset -- which explains the presence of a dedicated ChatON button beneath the screen. We'll keep our ears to the ground to find out if it's likely to make an appearance on these shores -- but we won't get our hopes up.
